SOmetimes the big pattern companies bug me.
Yesterday was a pattern sale at JoAnn So we trecked down there. I need the new eliz and civil war patterns.
I flipped through the pattern catalog just to see if anything else was interesting.
They have knocked off yet another craft pattern I recognize, and not very well I may say.
silver_seams Has a blog (The LJ is just a place holder) and she has a absolutely love Sun Conure Pattern. Free! see it here: http://www.silverseams.com/blog/patterns/2 006/07/sun-conure-pattern.html
I have made it up for my Bro-in-law. (next time I am on hubby's computer I will upload the pics)
The bird is easy to hand sew, and very good looking.
Now compare it to Simplicity's version number 3691
http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=3
It pales in comparison.
So my friends, do not buy the simplicity pattern, not even for a buck! go to Silver Seams and tell her how much better her pattern is.
And I do intend to tell Silver Seams about this. (when I e-mail her a pic of my finished birdie)
EDIT here are pictures of the pirate conure I made.
The only changes I made to the pattern, other than color were to add inner beaks so it is slightly more stable as I used regular felt, and the wings are button jointed as I couldn't find my 10mm joints.

Who's a Pretty bird?

I added an eye patch, cocked hat (remember tricorn is a 19th century term) and ribbon belt with toothpick sword. Bro-in-law is a tall ship sailor, not a pirate so the pirate get up is really a gag gift.

He was very well recived, everyone loved him. very easy to make, and fun to color.

I flatter myself to think if they'd actually looked at mine, theirs would have a better-shaped head. Anyway, thanks for the pics, I blogged back at you here!
we did actually start off with a jenday conure coloring but I think I went too crazy and it isn't realistic anymore.
My Brother in law loved his pirate bird, who has an honorary place in the rigging of his quarter scale tall ship. (he doesn't have photos on line)
your parrot is super well done xxxx

I love it!
And as a parrot owner, I just wanted to say I love how realistic you made it. And if you ever decide to make Caique or African Grey ones for sale...please let me know! :)
